Accommodation crisis facing third level students

A surge in student numbers and a scarcity of rental accommodation means many students who have found accommodation are already paying rent, though courses do not start for three more months.

There are currently 165,000 full-time students in Ireland, with that figure expected to rise to about 200,000 in the next 15 years.

This increase in student numbers is leading to a frantic search for third-level accommodation, with many Leaving Cert students already paying rent on their college digs.

New figures from College Cribs shows an 18% rise in activity compared to the same time last year.

There are now fears that the accommodation crisis will crush dreams of university life for thousands of students in Ireland.
