Castlemartin House the biggest one-off sale of 2015 to date

Castlemartin House, the former family home of Sir Anthony O’Reilly in Kilcullen, Co Kildare, looks like being the most expensive sale of 2015.

With the year drawing to a close, MyHome.ie decided to look back on some of the biggest sales of the year with the €26.5 million paid for the estate so far leading the way.

Purchased in January by Irish-American billionaire and owner of Humewood House in Co Wicklow, John Malone, it is easily the most expensive one-off sale recorded in Ireland this year.

Sorrento House in Dalkey

The second largest sale was in Dublin where 1 Sorrento House in Dalkey sold to a US bidder in the summer for €10 million, having come on the market for €12 million in 2013.

Also selling for €10 million was Courtown Demesne in Kilcock, Co Kildare. It was bought by developer Luke Comer.

Another notable sale was the €7.5 million paid for the former Canadian Embassy at Strathmore House in Killiney, which was bought by entrepreneur Dr Joe Elias in February.

Most of the year’s other notable sales also came early in the year, including Boystown House in Wicklow and Tulira Castle in Galway, which both sold in February.
