fun mom date nights

If you follow me on instagram you might have seen my late night post yesterday. It certainly wasn't the greatest photo to ever hit instagram, but in all of it's fuzzy, night-time glory it's certainly one of my favorite insta-pics. I love it because it captured one of the most special mom moments I've ever had.

You see, my husband travels a lot for work. He always has, even before we became parents. I find that because he's gone so much I end up being the strict parent, the eat your vegetables, do your chores, turn off the tv, read a book, mind your manners parent. Although, if I'm being totally honest with myself, I'd have to say I'd most likely be the strict parent even if he didn't travel so much.

But last night I played the role of fun mom. My two kiddos and I got dressed up and went out for a nicer than normal dinner (fondue for three!), then we came home and watched Jurassic Park......and I didn't even make them brush their teeth before bed. I know they need structure.....and that dental hygiene is important........but man was it fun to play fun mom for the night!

Finding that balance between running a tight ship and letting loose is tricky. I certainly don't have it all figured out, but I think I'm going to make these fun mom dates happen more often. We had such a great time, and I truly enjoyed every second!

(Outfit details for anyone curious - I fell in love with this tropical floral print dress I happened to find in the kids department (once again). I'm wearing an XL. It has an elastic back and adjustable straps and since I'm not very well endowed, if you know what I mean, it fits perfectly! Finding steals like this dress in the kids department is sort of the silver lining to being short and flat chested. ;) The necklace is an oldie but goodie Stella & Dot purchase, and the shoes were a recent TJMaxx find. My kiddos clothes are from H&M. I'm a huge fan of their kids department! The girl is wearing these gladiators with fringe, and the boy is wearing these flip flops, which are the greatest flip flops ever made. I myself have had a pair for years!)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
