inexpensive and stylish new bed for my boy

The platform bed I made for my son's room in our old house (house #5) wasn't going to work in the new house. So we moved with just his mattress and dresser; and I started hunting around for a bed for his room right after move-in day. I looked everywhere and couldn't find anything I loved.........well anything I loved within a reasonable price..........then I stumbled across the Novogratz line at Walmart.

I fell in love with the simple, modern design of this metal bed in gunmetal gray. And the price was so great that I thought for sure the quality would be less than stellar, but man was I surprised. I have zero complaints. This bed was really easy to assemble and is quite sturdy.

The boy's room is the furthest along of any room in the house. Other than the bed, the lamps, the map pillow and the army green comforter everything I'm using in his room came from shopping what we already had. And I'm really loving the direction his room is headed, and so does my boy. He's 11 now, so you know, he wanted a more "grown up" looking bedroom. I'm digging this masculine modern meets vintage vibe, and I'm head over heels for all the pattern mixing going on in here. Kid, excuse me, tween rooms are so fun to design!

I painted the walls in his room before the movers showed up with all of our furniture, and I'm loving this soft white with grey undertones. It's shoji white from Sherwin Williams. It's a great backdrop for all the color, and it really lets the furniture shine. My old desk from my basement workspace in our old house is serving double duty in here - it's a nightstand and a homework station.

My plan for this map pillow is to use fabric paint to fill in the states that he's visited. I just love fun personal details like that in a room design!

So there's where I am with the boy's room. I still have lots to do in here.........but progress is good........especially when it's super inexpensive yet totally stylish! I've said it before and I'll say it again, y'all should check out the Novogratz line at Walmart. It's really good and super affordable!
