The number of new homes expected to be delivered in the capital by the end of the year will not be enough to meet pent-up demand, the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) has warned.
Figures show that permission was given for just 13 residential schemes of more than 25 units in the third quarter of the year, a total of 852.
The SCSI says that, to date this year, just 2,735 homes have been given the green light, which is “well short” of the 7,000 units needed.
It added that the lack of supply is continuing to heap pressure on the “dysfunctional” property market, and that a lack of planning staff in local authorities means that projects are being subjected to delays.
The figures are contained in the latest edition of the quarterly Housing Development Monitor, published today.
